Meta Seeks Dismissal of Adult Content Piracy Lawsuit Over AI Training Claims
Meta has filed a motion to dismiss a lawsuit alleging the company used pirated adult content to train its AI models. The tech giant called the claims "nonsensical and unsupported," arguing plaintiffs built their case on "guesswork and innuendo" rather than factual evidence.
The lawsuit, originally filed by adult film distributor Strike 3 Holdings, accused Meta of torrenting nearly 2,400 adult movies since 2018 through corporate IP addresses. Meta counters that the alleged download pattern—averaging just 22 films annually across 47 IPs—contradicts claims of systematic AI training.
Legal observers note the case highlights growing tensions between content creators and AI developers over data sourcing. While the complaint focuses on adult content, its outcome could set precedents for broader copyright disputes in generative AI development.
